Karen Thayer is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina. She has a strong background in school counseling, where she has supported children, adolescents and families across a broad range of academic, social and emotional needs. She is dedicated to helping clients navigate challenges such as self- esteem concerns, anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions and other emotional difficulties. Karen incorporates child centered play therapy techniques to support emotional expression, build healthy coping skills, and foster resilience. She is deeply committed to helping young children develop emotional awareness and resilience, while supporting adolescents and young adults as they work through anxiety and life transitions. She integrates a wide range of creative modalities, such as music, bibliotherapy, role play, art and therapeutic games. Each intervention is thoughtfully chosen to help children process experiences, build emotional language and strengthen self awareness and regulation. She also values partnering with families to strengthen communication, deepen connections, and support healthy relationships at home.
Karen's goal is to empower clients to develop greater confidence, resilience, and self-understanding as they move toward self-acceptance and personal growth. She provides a compassionate, supportive environment where children, teens and young adults can explore their emotions, strengthen self-confidence, and develop healthy coping strategies for navigating life's challenges. She is committed to creating a space where clients feel safe, supported and understood, allowing them to build confidence and express themselves freely.
