What is play therapy, and who is it for? Check out more about play therapy here
Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approach for children ages 3–12. It helps children express feelings, process experiences, and develop coping skills through play. Children who are anxious, overwhelmed, or have experienced trauma often benefit the most.
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
Your child may benefit if you notice persistent anxiety, frequent emotional outbursts, regression, school or sleep difficulties, behavioral challenges, or stress related to medical experiences. Even if you’re unsure, a consultation can help determine the best next steps. How does therapy work for teens and adults?
Therapy for teens and adults at Mindful Beginnings is insight-oriented and skills-based. Clients explore thoughts, emotions, and patterns, while building practical tools for coping, emotional regulation, and relationship growth.
What makes Mindful Beginnings different?
We provide warm, individualized care with a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming approach. Our therapists focus on both emotional insight and practical tools, tailoring therapy to each client’s unique needs. We also emphasize a nervous system–aware approach to support regulation and resilience.
Do parents participate in therapy sessions?
Yes. Parent involvement is essential in our work with children. We offer guidance and coaching to help parents support their child’s emotional growth and manage challenges at home, creating lasting change beyond the therapy room.
How long does therapy take?
The length of therapy depends on the client’s needs and goals. Some families see progress within a few months, while others engage in longer-term support. We regularly review goals with clients to ensure therapy remains effective and collaborative.
Does Mindful Beginnings take insurance, and how does that work?
Each of our therapists set their own rates for therapy and accept different types of health insurance. Our fees range from $125-$185 based on experience.
We have therapists in-network with:
BCBS (Meagan, Sarah Beth, Bailee, Anna)
Aetna (Andrea, Meagan, Sarah Beth, Bailee, Anna)
Tricare (Meagan, Anna, Sarah Beth)
Cigna (Meagan)
To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier, the first thing you should do is call them. Check your coverage carefully and make sure you understand their answers. Some helpful questions you can ask them:
What are my mental health benefits for an in-office and/or telehealth therapy session?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
If your therapist is considered “out-of-network” for your specific insurance, you will self-pay and your therapist will give you a “Superbill” (Medical Receipt) and you can file the sessions through your insurance. These visits will go toward your out-of-network benefits based on your specific plan. When you go out-of-network, your therapist is not required to give you a diagnosis and or release any information to insurance. This provides a higher level of confidentiality and allows your therapist more flexibility in their approach. You can call your insurance provider and find out about your out-of-network benefits as well. A few questions to ask:
How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
Do I have to meet a deductible? Once I meet my deductible, how much will you cover for the sessions?
